posting english translation of a 1968 classic garth adventure "the wakening"----from hindi version [इश्रान  का शैतान]---

THE WAKENING----

5 millian years ago a hermit called zukanor lived in a big cave on a place called ishran which was located at where there is present day north atlantic ocean

zukanor-

"so thorblen ,people of ishran are pursuing you and you want me to help you?...

thorblen--

"so where else could i go my dear uncle?"

zukanor-

"runt!..you spoiled  their women..?"

thorblen-

"they came to me willingly..i taught them the art of living.."

zukanor-

you pillaged the temple of asunzai,,made fun of gods of ishran,you killed.."

thorblen--

enough of this list...will you help me?

zukanor-

Yes for the sake of your dead father, but first i shall put you to sleep,,

thorblen[aghast]--sleep?..oh ...no...

don't put me to sleep,no magic tricks uncle

zukanor...there is no other way[pouring a magic potion in to roaring fire and a vivid scene of  an army of soldiers riding on backs of mammoths springs up in the flames..]

"people of ishran are crossing the snow-clad high mountain peaks, you are finished.."

thorblen -

oh! ok. in that case i am prepared to sleep!how long will i be asleep?

zukanor-

"as long as there is a threat to your life ,my dear nephew..."answers zukanor while mixing a magical potion...

thorblen [pointing towards a huge wooden log sticking out from a gaping hole in the cave wall]-

what is that thing uncle zukanor?

zukanor-"you know i am the guard and gatekeeper of the great sluicegate which is holding up outside sea

thorblen--

"what if i remove this"?

zukanor -"you fool would you like to drown the people of ishran?"

thorblen [thinking while pushing out the massive wooden log and relesing the path for outside seawater to come in] why not? they are after my blood,let them drown,i pity their women."

zukanor is unawre of what i have done ,when the glaciers will melt the water will rush in sinking ishran and it's people.."

thorblen drinks up the magic potion of long sleep-"long live uncle long live your beard and long live your arthritic bones.."

zukanor-[seeing thorblen slumping to ground]----

i will have the last laugh ,dear nephew! Leeno! prepare magic potion for this worthless runt!..zukanor instructs his subordinate...

giant thorblen is helpless in the faceof his uncle jukanor’s mighty magic

“poor thorblen—says jukanor whil thorblen lie in deep sleep on the floor of his cave…” this magical potin will reach every fibre of your body circulting in your veins and it will make you sleep for 5million years”

“He will wake up in a strange new world of super beings”-zukanor says to his underling.

“You think so master”?-says a doubtful leeno

“but I can conquer time itself ,I can roam invisible around the space,then those people wil be godlike…”says zukanor.

Zukanor slips a magic ring into sleeping thorblen’s right hand, “guardian of life’s mysteries. This ring of sycultra will protct you”

“what is that scroll of papers at hi sfeet ..master?”-asks leeno.

That is our message to feople of distant future.. now seal this box and throw it in to the sea-“-zukanor asks his underling leeno

Glass box sealed with thorblen’s body is thrown from aclifftop in to the ocean –“by the time you wake  up we shall be long gone and forgotten, best wishe for a new future”-zukanor thus bids farewell to thorblen.

5 mill. Yers have passed, drillin for oil is going on in north atlantic

“We are laying explosives [mines] at a depth of 50 feet for our exploration”

Thorblen’s box is thrown up to surface as the mine explodes

There is acoffin  with a body inside it says on eone worker on the ol rig,”let us haul it up” says another

Boss what shall we do with it?

Our ob is only exploration, send it to shore where they will decide what to dothat night in garth’s londan flat-“they have found this coffin in north Atlantic garth informs lumiere reading from newspapers

“home office has brought it to London and forensic expert professor Gilpin has asked me to be present when they open it ,you can also come along garth!---says proff  lumiere

In a famous specialized research London hospital-“gilpin when will you open it? Asks proff.

‘that  is our problem  we have used hammers ,acetylene blow torches and even laser rays but we failed to open the box.” It is impenetrable.

This is very intriguing says lumiere

Body is well preserved , but of course there is no question of his coming to life –says Gilpin

“that man is not dead he is alive and waiting to be resurrected”---garth says watching thorblen’s apparently lifeless body in the glass coffin .

But Gilpin ,garth has  miraculous intuitive powers and I respect his instincts  are you very sure ,garth-asks proff lumiere

I am certain , I sense something trying to come out to surface ,he must be alive ..says garth

After a few more futile attempts to open the box containing thorblen –dr Gilpin addresses the technicians working with blow torches that it is already midnight and  and that now they should go home and come back in the morning.

Press reporters are waiting outside the laboratory and as garth and lumiere emerge they are asked questions –whose body is inside that coffin professor?”is it all a big joke?”

If it is indeed a joke I would like to meet the person who has played this joke , he must be brilliant!—responds professor lumiere.

Garth you seem to be disturbed”-says proff lumiere

“I am only exited and curious, let us go back to the box after the crowds disperse”garth says.it is fascinating.

Garth and lumiere speed back to lab. Meanwhile thorblen inside the box suddenly wakes up “where am i?..what is happening?is it a trick of zukanor? Where are you zukanor?—he shouts frantically.

“zukanor help me I am trapped inside this box buried alive

No thorblen ! you are a low life you deserve this.. press the button near your shoulder says suddenly appearing spectral form of uncle zukanor..

You have the ring of sycultra . goddess of infinite mysteries on your finger it will protect you, but use it carefully!-warns zuknor as thorblen is released from the glass coffin.

and then why would ulgar ,a darling of intergalaxeal games would marry a girl who can not provide him all the privileges of riches and a lavish and lifestyle?

garth- there is this one thing , ulgar that i admire about you is, you do not show false modesty...

ulgar- I will only get galia's money through this marriage alliance but galia will get me!

that night garth and ulgar leave on a voyage to sibila----our ship is cruising at slow speed through akor vortex garth  I hope that kraken's bandits would notice us.

"a dromedian ship is moving unescorted by any security near akor vortex... a robot relays this message to kraken's strong hold, catch them ,throw the pilots and crew....... “look garth a kraken ship is moving towards us"says ulgar when the persuing ship appears on their monitor screen..

good ..now to see if they will swallow our bet...says garth.

We are  coming through the side door,open the sky lock ,obey instructions otherwise you will be destroyed –says the robot on monitor screens in ulgar’s ship,garth responds-“got your message ,we obey”

“Four robots… they must be temporary crew. Pilots   who must have come to take our ship to their hideout-says ulgar

Open the sky lock and door –instructs the robot waving a weapon at garth and ulgar

It is the thing we feared garth says “they want to throw us in to the space

Hm. I will destroy those tin heads-says ulgar

No.. ulgar you will be destroyed even before you reach them—says garth----catch hold of something  tightly I will give a big jolt to the ship to topple them…..

Garth rocks the ship violently causing the robots to topple down ----“now! Pounce on them ulgar!,grab their leader!

GARTH AND ULGAR FIGHT KRAKEN’S ROBOTS

Robots are overpowerd…ulgar says…they can see us on their communicator screens.

No! I have severed  the communication but if we don’t move quickly they will be suspicious –says garth

Three robots are thrown in to space but garth and ulgar catch their leader

Ulgar—they have a preprogrammed nervous system!

Garth- yes a thing which cannot apply logic can not be made to lie, therefore we will have to force them from divulging our secret to kraken

Garth opens the chest plate of the robot-“ we will knock out the control unit in his chest and connect it by a cable to space craft’s motor engines and hopefully it’s awful noise will do the rest of our jobs”

Robot’s nervous controls are affected by terrible noise of space craft’s motors and it puts it into a heightened state of excitement much like a human being’s insaniy

Now we will place this robot in front of tele screens and remove ourselves from it’s field of view ,I will temper with sound transmitters so as to mask my voice…garth tells ulger

With your commonsense and keen intellect and with my strength and magnificent personality we can do anything –declare a pompous ulgar

 Don’t have any flights of fancy yet ulgar , we have much to accomplish—says garth

Garth transmits a false message to bandit’s space shift---“we have captured the ship and thrown their crew in to space”

You voice is jerky… why did communication link with us snap ,why did the dromdian ship change course please explain –asks the robot in command ship .

We had some problem with pilot crew, it was set right…communicates garth mimicking robot’s voice

Ok.. follow us now, prepare to land—orders the robot in command ship..

“we have succeeded in doing this”- garth thinks.

The captured dromedian goods carrier spacecraft follows the other ship to land on kraken’s hideout..it is being instructed by kraken on communicator—electric force field has beencutoff in epsilon region to allow you to pass through

“come ulgar”..”if we are lucky we will escape from this place unobserved “ says garth coming out of spacecraft after it has landed and ulgar follows him.

“ulgar nobody has seen us coming out of the space craft “says garth, but once there is internal inspection of the space ship the whole thing will be blown open..says garth to ulgar

Then we should find galia quickly but where should we start looking for her? Ulgar asks garth

“I think that must be kraken’s residential place…says garth looking up at a majestic tall minaret like building…  “ and I think we will find galia there”

There are robots guarding the door says ulgar should I thrash them?ulgar asks garth

“no we will enter the building quietly through air went on this side “answers garth pointing out the opening of a ventilation duct outside the building.

Garth and ulgar enter kraken’s house through air vent and see a robot carrying a food laden tray entering a room and decide to follow him in to the room after it has done it’s job  to see if galia has been kept in this room.

Ulgar! How did you find me ?exclims a startled galia when ulgar and garth suddenly force their way through the opening of air duct in to her room.

“nothing is impossible for your ulgar “ulgar boasts –meet garth he is my follower and he is faithful to me”

Meanwhile kraken is asked whether dromedians could have forced their way in to the building?

Kraken decides to watch galia’s roon through an instrument which can pick up brain wave activity of any living being inside the room and when they pick up brain wave activity of three persons they deide to connect the brain wave activity to a tracer connected to robot’s neural system to capture the intruders.

ULGAR AND GARTH ARE SEEN BY ROBOTS WHEN they accompany galia out of her chamber..garth pushes galia in to the ventilation duct and when they try to reach the dromedian space craft ,after escaping from kraken’s building they see that it was encircled by kraken’s robots.”we are trapped”-says garth

“ulgar ,I am afraid  save me from those horrible things there “says galia”

Huh! Tinheads! I will smash them to pieces “-says ulgar

Garth warns ulgar “keep back ulgar!

‘when ulgar wades in to robot guards alone and starts lifting one of them over his head to throw it down he is surrounded and captured by other robots while galia asks garth to save ulgar he tells her  that these robots could have killed ulgar as soon as he even took one step forward ,if they wanted but they did not so I don’t think they really want to harm him –garth tells galia.

“galia look !ulgar is unharmed ,they must have orders to capture him alive -garth tells galia “I want to plan my further move by remaining out of their clutches

“and I thought that you were his friend “says a furious galia.

 “I am, and I promise you that I will bring him back to you later ,but for now we should move forwards…says garth.

Kraken is keeping an eye on escaped pair-“oh those two are baffling the robots.. I wonder who is that man?.

Kraken’s curiosity is aroused---“ let me see the brain structure of this man”

“o! very impressive ,he has got courage, talent and firm determination,not like that blundering fool ulgar,he would give us good contest.”-says kraken

Garth.they have found us, they will continue to follow us till we fall down of sheer exhaustion,-says a tired galia

Somehow they are getting instructions from somewhere where to look for us,but galia continue to move ,we are not done yet… says garth
