BIDLE’S ’s version of events as they unfold 50 years ago on planet TISHO-

ALGOL-The space chariot is ready NEFERIZ.. I will use the centrifugal force of the cosmos to bladt it off into the deep space.

NEFERIZ-They will continue to travel for 50 years, therefore we will have to make them  go to sleep

Moya ! my daughter! Think before you drink that marriage to oclid will save you from this ordeal!

I prefer the unknown.neferiz my father the emperor of tisho goodbye!

Moya and the three young men are made to drink sedatives to fall in  deep slumber and are loaded aboard the space chariot!

ALGOL-To keep their life force steady we will have to keep their bodies frozen so that they  preserve their youthful appearance…O AMBUS! LORD of the sunless Polar Regions blow your icy winds over the travelers and over this space chariot!

AS thunder and lightning and icy cold storm envelops the space chariot it starts to lift off as priest algol uses his miraculous powers to project it in to space.

ALGOL- O NFERIZ! Space chariot is ready to lift off!

NEFERIZ – let it go, this demonic wind is freezing me.

‘GOODBYE MOYA! First amongst the new tishians!- algol bids farewell as the space chariot lifts off.

BIDLE- the chariot kept on its course for the new planet for approximately 50 years, and then old algol received shocking information.

Master algol, the chariot has strayed from it’s orbit!

Algol- impossible! My calculations were flawless!

Algol watches the status of the ship –‘you are right! It was to make it’s landing next month on the new planet! Where did I go wrong?

Algol returns to his laboratory –‘where is the nearest solar system for the space chariot?’

‘here master ALGOL!  A sma ll sun with 8 or nine planets!

BIDLE [continues his story]- that was the first time algol established contact with me ,I was experimenting with amendment and modification of killever manouvre of brain thought waves[b-179]

Bidle continues-‘resident of distant planet, listen to me I am priest saint algol of the planet tisho are you listening?

Why can’t algol send anybody from tisho to do this job?

BIDLE[pompously]-because he does not know the technology of separating soul from the body ,only I can do this[b-180]

BIDLE- garth will you help these four Titians in their space chariot?

LUMIERE- BIDLE! I protest! You are meddling with powers far beyond your capabilities, if something goes wrong, suppose you are unable to return Garth’s soul back to its body!

BIDLE- LUMIERE! I am not a magician! Let Garth decide for himself….yes garth?

GARTH volunteers for soul transference experiment of professor bidle---

‘the technique is really simple!first an electric shock to separate brain activity …’

…..’Then a cathode ray blast on a vital sensitive spot in the nervous system, I inject a drug when the whole structure gets separated’

PROFESSOR LUMIERE- this has gone too far bidle . stop! You are destroying with the life of a human being.

BIDLE – there will be some pain Initially, but what is a little pain for the sake of scientific knowledge?

GARTH- I am ready!

BIDLE  allows the electric shock through Garth’s body and Garth’s whole body is arched in sheer painful spasm!

LUMIERE- bidle ,I hope you know , what you are doing!

BIDLE- he can withstand anything, he is a complete man, now I will give the injection![b-183]

Lumiere! I have finished the job! I have separated gart’s spirit from his body, look!

LUMIERE- HE IS BLABBERRING LIKE A BABY. A moron! You have destroyed him bidle!

[Garth is moaning incoherently]

BIDLE- no lumiere you only see the empty shell of garth’s human body…. The real Garth is here  near us somewhere in this room![b-184]

LUMIERE – you say that the real garth is here in this room?...prove it!

BIDLE- oh! Very well for you I will establish thought contact with him.

PROF. LUMIERE- because he cannot be tolerated elsewhere, you will see for yourself.

[professor lumiere [along with Garth ]a in a rundown apartment building knocks on the door of an apartment]

Professor bidle opens the door-‘ oh! It is you professor lumiere , thought it was that damn loan shark, come in and have a chair ,if you can find one[b162]

IN a cheap south London apartment-

LUMIERE- bidle why did you call me?

Bidle- because you are only one of the few scientists who are not bookish…

…now I urgently need a fearless and capable volunteer.

LUMIERE-WHAT for?

BIDLE – OH! I will use his spirit by mental transference to outer space to save four young people from a slow and painful death![b-163]

LUMIERE- bidle do you mean to say that you would transport in to deep space   a human spirit by separating it from its living body?

BIDLE- yes! Lumiere I have established mental contact with a friend on planet ‘TISHO’

GARTH-‘TISHO”where is that?

Bidle establishes contact with sage algol on faraway planet ‘tisho’

Algol- bidle i can hear your voice ,have you found the man?

Bidle- yes ! but he does not know anything ,he is beside me now[[b-165]

“This is very important bidle our space chariot has strayed  in to space along with our emperor’s daughter!put this volunteer on the job immediately.is he reliable?

Bidle-yes algol he is very strong and wise.

Bidle [coming out of his trance like state] repeats the message received from algol

Professor – and bidle where would you find your space volunteer?

Bidle- he is here only… your friend Garth, that is why I had asked you to bring him along with you![b-166]

Garth-so you want to use me as a scapegoat in your work in this space related madness?

Bidle- yes I do! But don’t tell  me that you are afraid?

Garth- first tell me what this is all about?

Lumiere- keep in mind that bidle is a genius but he is slightly irresponsible.

Bidle[angrily]- irresponsible? You call me irresponsible? I who provided enough materiel to two noble laureates, for free to help them win the prize?[b-167]

Valdo biddle tells his story-

‘This trouble strated 50 years ago when ‘tisho’ was afflicted by a contagious fungus!

50 years ago emperor neferiz is on inspection tour of his planet tisho-

Algol- neferiz! This fungus is spreading everywhere, there will be no life left in tisho In a span of 100 years!

Neferiz-sage algol you will have to stop this![b-168]

Sage algol don’t you have any method to stop this from spreading?

None! My emperor, I even summoned the demonic powers of ‘acra’ , but nothing happened!

Fungus has spread to plains of ‘ikerana’,our crops are getting ruined!

Neferiz- algol can’t you stop this? Don’t you remember what happened to your predecessor priest?

He could not foretell the earth quake 10 years back and I had him boiled in oil!

Algol- [timidly] - I remember my emperor!

Algol- there is one solution to the havoc caused by the fungus emperor, my astrologers have found the existence of a planet 50 light years away, where people of Tisho can live, and we must send a group of pioneers to inhabit on this planet.

Emperor- what happens to the rest?

Algol-we would probably all be dead of hunger and old age before they reach that planet all our existence will be wiped out. [B-170]

O neferiz! To propagate our race on the new planet we must send a young maiden and three young men-[continues algol]

Neferiz- quiet! Algol , I choose my rebellious youngest daughter moya!

She is refusing to wed the man I have chosen for her, come let us return to the palace! [b131]

The youngest daughter of emperor of Tisho, moya  [facing furious father]----- NO  father I will not marry

Oclid,he is old and fat and his breath stinks

Neferiz- QUIET!HE has 50 kaldars of warriors and ten thousand slaves

Moya  - I am not concerned with all that, I  will not marry that fatso!

Neferiz- then, by god I will give you three husbands!

Send her to that new planet, this is my order algol![b-132]

Algol[to moya]- obey your father moya marry oclid

Moya- I will prefer death, send me to that new plant you were talking about!

Garth- you mean to say that emperor sent his own daughter in to space?

Bidle- yes Garth, it was a battle of principles in which moya was the victor!

Garth- good for her, how did she fare in space dr., bidle?

Bidle -.I am telling you , let me narrate the story in my own way!

Garth and friends make plans to finish off the remaining quarks-

Guy and eid are looking out far Garth with guy holding a burning torch in his hand at the top of a wooden bridge made of round logs-

“That round quark is chasing Garth”

Eid! Ask ut and his men to be ready after the bridge’

Garth being chased by quark thinks-“he is fast!”[y-289]

Chasing Garth the quark advances on the wooden bridge slowly-

‘set fire to the dry grass’-orders Garth as guy ready with a burning torch bends forwards to set fire  to a heap  of dry grass kept midway on the bridge as Garth sprints to the safety of other bank beyond the make shift bridge

Quark hesitates a little facing the fire-

Garth and guy are running along the bridge as Garth shouts –“bring the large hammer![y290]

Garth and friends strike the bridge with a large wooden log as the bridge made of round logs starts rolling over therollers,as the rollers kept underneath the wooden logs are displaced and fall down in the river below bridge made of wooden logs give way and collapses into the river carrying the quark along with it

Quark falls over large sharpened stakes of wood and dies to revert back to original size of a microbe [y291]

After 15 day- 5 of the quarks have been trapped and killed—

Guy- eid, we have now become experts in the art of toppling the bridge

Eid- but always you or Garth become baits for him….and guy today you had to run a lot ,I was afraid he would catch you.

Guy- don’t worry eid, Garth will be looking after you anyway.

Eid I am worried for you I have worked hard to  prepare  this meal for you! Eat!

Ut overhearing the two murmurs in Garth’s ear-‘now she wants his company!

Garth [amused smile]-most certainly! [Y-292]

Garth- ut are you sure that one more quark is left?

Ut-yes .it is as long as a snake but always lives in the jungle.

It never comes out of there, so unlike others we cannot kill it on  the river bank.

Garth- we will have to think of something else, we will have to watch and study him carefully before we make an attempt to trap it!

Garth studies the habits of this last and reclusive quark [he watches it crawling out of a hole]-oh! So it hides in there and only comes out during day time to hunt!

Quark tries to shake off Garth watching from treetops-‘he has sensed my presence and now he is trying to make me fall down this tree’ Garth thinks as huge snake like creature strikes it’s head against the tree trunk again and again trying to dislodge Garth from tree branch.

‘wish I was somplace else…thinks Garth …’I am beginning to see a way to beat him’

 Garth this snake like quark sleeps at night that is the time we should trap him.

Guy- you found it’s hiding place?

Garth -yes… [noticing eid coming towards them with two glasses of steaming beverage..]ok eid you have come.. You are part of the war council!

Eid- I am not very imaginative ….is there anything I can do?

Garth-Yes  a dirty job ,you lead those women and make them dig out soil from the river bed!

Eid and tribal women collect a lot of dirt from the river banks….

Guy- I will have to be the bait for this one Garth!

Garth-Why?

Guy-‘That tough grass rope will have to be cut in a single strike ad you are stronger than me!’

For two nights when the serpent quark was sleeping in it’s hole trap was being set for it—

I have tied this rope tightly, give it some slack and see how it hangs out [garth and and friends have prepared a huge sharpend log and tied it’s one end to to a treetop branch

Garth climbs down the rope-while eid is telling guy that the stake was not properly balanced.

Guy- it will be corrected after Garth finishes and comes down here, we will use a mixture of soil and grass![y-297]

 On one end of The big wooden spear like log a mixture of soil and is stuck and wrapped around with grass.

Garth—let it harden for a day!

Garth shows eid that after blunt end of the wooden spear was stuck with hardened soil and grass it was now evenly balanced.

Next night—[on the treetop Garth and friends are busy making final adjustments to their crude wooden spear like weapon-

‘Take a deep breath’

‘Pull it up a bit more then it will come to the right place![y-298]

Guy lure the serpent quark as it crawls out of it’s hole during day time---”

Eid warns garth-‘here he comes’

Garth ready to strike thick rope holding one end of huge wooden sharpened log to act as a spear with a large sword poised with arms held high above his head.—he is coming eid tell me as soon as he reaches that line.

Guy reaches the line drawn on the forest floor as spear above swings.[y-299]

Eid calls out Garth! Get ready!

Now! Shouts eid

Garth strike a mighty blow with the big sword and the rope is cut cleanly

The huge heavy spear falls swinging like a pendulum

Quark is destroyed as the spear finds its’ mark and it reverts back to the size of a microbe.[y-300]

Guy[exults]-

We did it! The last quark is dead!

Eh? What happened to eid? Questions a bewildered guy as he watches gart climbing down the rope holding eid in the crook of his arm who has swooned!

Garth- she is coming around now knowing that you are safe.

Guy- That is the real femininity  emerging in her, now she seems to have changed somewhat from her earlier self.[y-301]

Garth-[cradling eid in his arms as she recovers from her faint, watched over by a visibly happy guy]

You have changed yourself!

Last quark is also killed and celebrations are going on in the camp-

Eid- [offering guy a bowel of snack in the shadows of the huts]oh! How you were saved from that quark , I will not allow you to do any more dangerous stunts/

Guy- oh don’t tell me what you will not allow me[to do]

I going to do a dangerous thing just now .i will grab you and take you as my wife!

Guy grabs eid by wrist and carries her off on his shoulder

Garths stop him! [Inwardly thinking-‘don’t you dare!]Says eid as a smiling Garth watches the whole scene in amusement[y302]

Ut- all the quarks are killed now we can go back ,you can live here with your friends-ut offers garth as he is practicing javelin throws.

No ut men will come from skies in a while guy and eid will go with them and I will return home!

Garth we want to go with you we will return to future some other time –says guy as he returns with arm thrown around eid’s shoulders .

eid who is happy and content-yes ! We are sorry that we gave you so much trouble .please take us from here before our people come to pick us back to our times![y-303]

lumiere- how did you spend your time these last few months while away from this place?

Professor –I had a good time had fun helping out a couple of postmen.

Lumiere-postmen?

Garth – yes! They used to work for Trans time postal service but they were lost here in the past and now they work for GPO.

Lumiere- eh? What are you talking about?[y-304]

Two figure in overcoats trudging through snow and carrying satchels  are seen outside Garth’s cottage[guy and eid]

Guy- hello garth due to overburden during chrismas eid is helping me out.

Garth – I am happy to see you two, we will have coffee if you can spare five minutes of your time.

Garth introduces the couple to professor lumiere-‘professor this is guy and his wife eid, they have strated at the bottom rung but you are probably meeting future postmaster!’

Guy[to professor]- do you know I have experienced the future?

Lumiere[surprised]- you do?[y-305]

Lumiere-[having coffee with eid]- are you two really from the future?

Eid-yes! Garth once told us that you could tell us a lot of things on this subject!

It is boring that women should run everything and men work like slaves, oh! They are not like my guy!

Guy- garth has provided us with a beautiful little flat and a job we like but I have thought of a scheme how to run GPO more efficiently.

Garth- nobody will push you around as long as you are with me..

But eid! You will also not order around any body! Come let us sit together and make some further plans.[y-272]

Garth- ‘this area has six quarks ,so till they pick you up back to your time ,either we stay in hiding to save ourselves from them  or else we look for these quarks and kill them!

Eid-that would be suicidal, hiding will be better!

Guy- stay hiding out of fear for them will be cowardly, we will hunt them!

Garth-me too! Eid we are in majority of two![y-273]

Ut[to garth]-you accompany us to our camp which is safe from quarks.

Garth-safe?

Ut- almost safe.

After one hour-‘this is the camp’ ut says pointing towards a triangular land mass on high ground with it’s promontory towards the river edge..

Eid- but how can this be safe, on the other hand if quarks come we will be trapped here![y-274]

Ut, garth and group of friends reach the edge of the atoll –ut explains showing several ropes hung from atop the knoll hanging down towards the river-if quarks come we will climb down these ropes and cross the river on boat.

Garth- ut1this is a safe bait!

Ut- ‘almost’

But one quark also swims in river water, once four of our men was eaten by the quark while crossing the river , only women could survive![y-275]

Later in the camp Garth is squatting on the ground fashioning some crude tools watched over by eid and guy!---

Garth-firstoff we should get rid of this swimmer quark!

Guy- right! But how? Bullets don’t stop them!

Eid – but why are you wasting your bullets on him?

Garth – no eid I am setting a trap for him!

After we make all preparations we will go for quark hunting![y-276]

In the evening- ut approaches garth who is busy making a crude explosive device-

‘we will keep watch for the quark at nigt’

Garth- very good ut we will also participate in keeping watch!

Guy- Garth I will do double shift on guard duty so can stay with eid ,I cannot leave her alone!

Eid-GUY!

Guy- eid I will not allow you to do as you wish!

Eid- I am not refusing, just wanted to thank you!

Garth [overhearing the raises eye brows in mock surprise]-! Something is changing between them![y-277]

Morning- Garth shakes up eid- wake up! We go hunting the swimmer quark!

Later eid questions garth – you were saying something about going fishing Garth?

Garth- I have made a crude bomb fro the black charcoal powder, and have an oily fuse!

We fit this in to the abdomen of a dead animal, and this will be our bet!

Guy- second bait! Garth will be the first bait!y-278]

Ut and his men seek out the river quark

Garth – oh! So he is upstream we should set out now!

Garth- you and eid occupy your posts , you know your part?

Guy- you don’t worry!

Eid- garth,thanks for all this

Garth- don’t say that this is not goodbye meeting, I will come back yety279]

Garth baits sleeping quark from a small canoe- come on wake up , you flu producing  brute microbe!

Garth paddles away and escapes quickly in his canoe as the giant quark awakens and opens his huge jaws—“ it is enlarged zillionth times its original size, here penicillin is not going to help kill this .[y280]

Garth reaches the fast flowing rapids with swimmer quark in hot pursuit!eid and guy are waiting for garth purched on the limb of a tree over hanging th rapids

Guy- garth has arrived eid prepare the fuse!

Eid- right!

Huge brute microbe follows swimming through the rapids.[y281]

Garth positions his canoe underneath the large overhanging branch of the tree on which are perched eid and guy with the carcass of a dead animal with it’s leg tied to a rope with guy hanging on to it with one arm and other arm tightly grasping the tree branch-

Garth –‘hold on tightly to that branch guy!’

Eid- guy let go of the rope quark is catching the bait!

Meanwhile Garth is thrown off the canoe as its bottom is struck by a rock submerged in river water.[y-282]

While guy is busy feeding the quark carcass of a dead animal containing the lethal improvised explosive device eid warns him-‘ guy look! Garth boat has overturned.’

Quark wallows the bait of dead animal with the bomb sewed inside it’s belly and turns to follow Garth who is wondering if the fuse would have been extinguished as there was plenty of air inside not to let it be extinguished.[y-282]

Garth climbs atop the submerged rock  as the quark charges towards him-

Eid- guy he is trapped!

Guy jumps down into the river holding along knife-‘ I should help him’!

Eid-  no!there is no hope!

Garth makes a huge leap and jumps over the top of quark’s huge gaping mouth![y-284]

But falls right back in to the water as he is shaken off by the huge shaking body of the beast.

Garth shouts at guy who is busy shoving the upturned wooden canoe in to the huge jaws of the monster quark –g-guy!come back!

Guy who watches the wooden canoe splintered between huge jaws of the quark- we can argue later, first we have to keep him distracted till the time the bomb explodes

Guy shoves the boat inside quark’s mouth to buy time for him to swim away to safety. [Y-285]

Garth- guy! Swim quickly!

Guy- why has the bomb inside the quark not gone off?

Just then there is a deafening explosion inside the huge body of the quark!

And in a minute quark turns back to the size of of a minute dirt particle dead microbe!

Guy- this worked like magic!

Garth – yes! And thanks to you for being a part of the magic trick! [Y-286]

Guy-- and a second quark bite the dust!

Garth-that animal would have devoured me had you not intervened!

Garth and guy return as a furious eid turns on ‘guy- off! You fool I am so angry with you!

At the same time I am so proud of you also!’[Y-287]
