canon's servant thacher's treachary has helped sir clare rohan to apprehend bandit tim canon at is secret hideout at turkshead inn.--
clare [brandishing his whip in te face of a frightened catherine-
"so! catherine you hated me and my family andchose to marry that bandit !"
catherine- he is a much better human being than you sir clare!
clare angrily raises his whip-" o let the bandit's whore bear the mark of her profession"
canon seeing clare whipping catherine on her face tries to escape from policemen holding him nd shouts angrily- rohan i will kill you for that!
clare- now you will hang canon and your bar whore will be whipped!
old lady mole examines catherin's injured face-oh! poor mistress! scarred by that animal ,she will have to endure this for life! she turns on her heels facing clare rohan angrily gesticulating curses him-"sir clare rohan mark my words! from now on every firstborn male of your generation will carry the same scar mark you have given this gentle lady!
rohan- shut up you drunken crow stop your crowing.... "take away the prisoners !" he instructs his policemen.
"take them to bridewell jail canon and garfield will soon hang!"
but london crowd gathers in a mob-"that mob means troble!"a soldier tells clare as tim cannon is being escorted out in custody from the inn gates.
"canon will still beta you" somebody shouts from the crowd and soldiers panic- " make canon climb on the carriage!"

tim canon is made to climb the police wagon using force while he noisy crowd closes in-
garth notices catherine's scar on face-" that mark on your cheek! who is responsible?"
catherine --"it is the handiwork of rohan's wrath and his whip hand!"
garth prounounces grimly- so now i have two tasks cut out for me one to save you and tim from clutches of clare and to get even with him and settle my score with him.
meanwhile clare urges his soldiers to make way by cane charging the crowds, and not to bother about any broken heads.
while te police was grappling with the mob garth takes his chance and breaking his handcuffs rushes the nearest soldier and taking him by surprise knocks him down, and taking hold of catherine's wrist asks her to make a run for it!
catherine - i can not go without him!
garth- soldiers are gathering in large numbers, i will rescue him later, i promise!
soldiers notice gath and catherine's escape-" garfield is running away, 200 guinnes award to whoever catches them!"
garth and catherine while making their way through london's back alleys are accosted by a one legged kindly old man-" giving the policemen a slip? take this lane i will mislead them!"
'thanks' says garth and along with catherine hides in in the alley while the man on cruches sets the police following them on a wrong road.

garth and catherine come out of hiding watching the police running off the other way-
garth- police is gone catherine!
one legged man " you can take rest at my humble abode which is near here!"" i am josh lovelace and she is my wife"
lovelace's wife- but why the lady's cheek is bleeding?
garth lateron asks lovelace foe a favour while catherine 's injury is being tended to by loveace's wife-""we are already in your debt sir , but can i ask you for one more favour cn i leave catherine here to stay here with you for a while,so that i can get even with thecrooked man who is responsible for her injury!

catherine bids gath farewell as he prepares to leave-"be care ful john!brideswell jail is guarded like a fort!
